We offer weekend Specialty Camps throughout the year for a variety of ages and interests. Each Specialty Camp features a unique theme targeting a specific age group and relies heavily on trained volunteers to be successful.
Upcoming Specialty Camp brochures and the full camping programs schedule can be found in the box to the right. Examples and brief descriptions of our Specialty Camps are below.
Please feel free to contact the Associate Director with questions.
Family Camp
Created as a response to repeated requests by parents of Cloverbud campers to have a camp where adults can also participate in camp. This is your opportunity parents! Family Camp is open to the entire family and usually takes place in the summer months.
Come play with your child (or children!). Come watch them conquer fears, learn about the outdoors, and show off for you! Come let them watch you conquer fears, learn about the outdoors, and show off for them!
Cloverbud Camp
This overnight weekend camp provides youth ages 5-8 with the opportunity to have an overnight camping experience away from home. No previous experience in 4-H is necessary. These programs provide educational and recreational opportunities that are age-appropriate and supervised by Teen Leaders, Adult Volunteers, 4-H Center Camp Staff, as well as Extension Agents and the 4-H Center Associate Director. Cloverbud camps are typically conducted several times per year and are designed around exciting and engaging themes! These camps help to provide the socialization that is necessary for children at that age. Campers at this age are full of energy and excitement and we are here to direct that energy and excitement to a positive and growing direction.
Teen Weekend
Teen Weekend camps are uniquely themed weekend camps open ONLY to teenagers (and adult volunteers). Featuring programs, challenges and activities that are ONLY offered at this camp, they are the perfect opportunity for teens to get away and have a great weekend. Workshops that will benefit teens now and in the future, typical camp activities, plenty of down time for hanging out, and special activities designed around the theme of the weekend make for an excellent reason for teens to join us!
Junior 4-H Specialty Camps
There are a variety of specialty camps offered throughout the year for "junior 4-Hers" (9-12 years old). Some camps in the past have included Top Chef Camp, Robotics Camp, and even Harry Potter Camp! Some new themed camps have been added this year such as "E-Magine the Possiblities" Technology Camp, Explore the Outdoors Camp, and a Holly Jolly Christmas Camp! These camps will be posted online and on our facebook page throughout the year, so be on the lookout for these exciting opportunites!
4-H Hunter's Education
This weekend camp is open to youth ages 10-18 from across Virginia. Certified instructors from Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries provide the instruction and training necessary to receive a Virginia Hunter's Education Certificate. Unlike Hunter's Education courses found in your community, this weekend camp features the unique opportunity for youth to experience "live-fire" in a safe, controlled environment. This includes hands-on training in archery, riflery, and shotgun. Our priority is to provide youth with the appropriate hands-on training along with the required classroom-based training before receiving their Hunter's Education Certificate.
Outdoor Adventure
Outdoor Adventure programs are offered for a variety of ages throughout the year. Each program is designed for a specific age group (contact the 4-H Center for more info). Outdoor Adventure programs offer participants the opportunity to appreciate and learn the natural world around them while experiencing a variety of exciting life-long hobbies. Highly trained, qualified, and professional instructors will lead participants on these exciting adventures. Adventures may include hiking, camping, rock climbing, caving, backpacking, whitewater rafting, canoeing, and more!
