Renovation of the Smith Central Activities Building

"Phase One" of the renovation of the Smith Central Activities Building is complete!  The old lobby, bathroom, and office areas were gutted and upgraded with new, modern facilities, including lower, coffered beam ceilings, new flooring, and more spacious bathrooms.  The front entrance of the building overlooking Smith Mountain Lake, which was previously blocked off for office space, has been reopened with a new timber truss porch that matches the Welcome Center.

The Smith Central Activities Building was one of the first buildings constructed when the Center was established in 1964, and was long overdue for a "makeover!"

The Welcome Center is open for business!!

In June, 2011, we opened our brand new, beautiful Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is the perfect greeting for visitors to and guests of the 4-H Center! Our administrative offices are now located here, as well as an Executive Board Room, a Grand Entrance Hall (complete with a 4-sided fireplace!), and a few thousand square-feet of open program space (climate controlled) downstairs. Click here for more information.
