Upcoming Camps...
In February the 4-H Center will be offering THREE weekend specialty camps...Top Chef Camp (9-12 yrs), Robotics Camp (9-12 yrs), and a Winter Cloverbud Camp (5-8 yrs)! For more information please visit the Specialty Camps Page (brochures are in the top right corner of the page).
Fall Camps = BIG Success!
We had three very successful camps this fall...Harry Potter Camp, Fall Cloverbud Camp (When you Wish Upon a Clover!), and our Fall Teen Weekend (Expedition Impossible). Between the three camps we served approximately 140 people. Lots of fun, a little cold, and plenty of 4-H to go around! If you missed it, don't worry...there are more weekend camps coming in the winter/spring!
Grand Opening: Welcome Center
In June, 2011 we opened our brand new, beautiful Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is the perfect greeting for visitors to and guests of the 4-H Center! Our administrative offices are now located here, as well as an Executive Board Room, a Grand Entrance Hall (complete with a 4-sided fireplace!), and a few thousand square-feet of open program space (climate controlled) downstairs. Update: Shooting Sports Complex AND Flag Plaza Construction projects are complete!
The John G. Rocovich Jr. Regional Shooting Sports Complex Dedication Ceremony was held June 16, 2010, and the building was open for use the following day. Featured speakers included Wayne LaPierre from the NRA and Governor Bob McDonnell.

Additionally, the new Flag Plaza was dedicated on August 17, 2010, with featured speakers, Cory Reynolds, former 4-H'er and now an Investigator with the Henry County Sheriff's Department, and Dr. Charles Steger, President of Virginia Tech.

The Rockbridge Vespers area was completed in June and offers another excellent location for outdoor gatherings, weddings, etc!
Program that uses LEGO Robotics kits helps make math and science fun for children
Think back to summer camp and activities like archery or canoeing may come to mind. Children huddled over laptop computers to program robots may not. But boys and girls doing just that is now a common sight at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake.
